The first Ronald McDonald Family Room in Greece was opened at the “Agia Sofia” Children’s Hospital

On Wednesday, November 13, Greece’s first Ronald McDonald Family Room officially opened at the “Agia Sofia” Children’s Hospital. This initiative was created by the charity organization Ronald McDonald House Charities Hellas (RMHC Hellas).

The Family Room is situated in an independent property of 310 square meters within the hospital grounds. It has been renovated by RMHC Hellas and constructed by GDM Assets as a hospitality space for the relatives of children receiving treatment. The facility consists of three adjacent buildings that have been reconfigured into three family suites, a living room, laundry and storage areas, private bathrooms, a kitchen, and a counseling room.

The Family Room will be available for daily use and will serve families of children undergoing treatment at the hospital, with overnight stays determined in consultation with the hospital based on vulnerability and needs criteria.

In the RMHC Family Room, parents can take a short break from the hospital environment, enjoy a meal, rest, take a shower, do laundry, or simply have a coffee. This space provides them with an opportunity to relax and recharge before returning to their child’s bedside.

The Family Room was inaugurated by Deputy Minister of Health Marios Themistokleous, in the presence of RMHC Global Executive Director Rodney Jordan, Premier Capital plc CEO Melo Hili, RMHC Hellas President Ioannis Apostolopoulos, and “Agia Sofia” Children’s Hospital Administrator Emmanouil Papasavvas. Minister of Health Adonis Georgiadis attended on behalf of the President of the Hellenic Government, offering his best wishes for the opening.

GDM Assets, committed to supporting the mission of RMHC, proudly served as a Premium Sponsor of the project, covering a significant portion of the construction costs through its donation. Many major sponsors, donors, and supporters of the project also attended the opening event, whose contributions made the establishment and operation of the first RMHC Family Room possible.
