Olympic Swimming Pool of Athens

Reconstruction of the Olympic Swimming Pool of Athens at Zappeion. The historic Olympic Swimming Pool is undergoing a complete upgrade on behalf of the Hellenic Olympic Committee, with the goal of transforming it into the main training and competition venue for Greek aquatic sports.

Revitalizing

To a historic swimming pool

Built in 1940, the Olympic Swimming Pool of Athens is the first open-air swimming pool in Greece and one of the most significant sports venues in Athens. After 14 years of inactivity, the facility is being functionally, aesthetically, and energetically upgraded, transforming a historic site into a modern sports centre of high standards. The extensive interventions aim to create a safe, functional, and technically advanced environment, capable of meeting the needs of the national swimming, water polo, and artistic swimming teams, while preserving the historic identity of the facility and its connection to Zappeion.

Creating

A state-of-the-art sports facility

The reconstruction project addresses key issues such as functionality, structural integrity, energy efficiency, and safety. Central to the project is the complete redesign of the swimming pool tank, which will feature a new load-bearing structure and an advanced lining system comprising stainless-steel panels and a PVC membrane. This ensures high levels of watertightness, durability, and operational reliability.

Additionally, extensive structural reinforcement work is underway, and all electromechanical installations are being fully upgraded. This includes the installation of new water treatment systems, heat pumps, and building management systems (BMS) for automation. The project also incorporates measures for energy upgrades, accessibility for individuals with disabilities, and fire protection.
