Ronald McDonald Family Room
- Client: Ronald McDonald House Charities
- Location: Athens, Attica
- Completion Date: 2024
Construction of the first Ronald McDonald Family Room in Greece, established at the “Agia Sofia” Children’s Hospital, by the charitable organization Ronald McDonald House Charities Greece (RMHC Greece). The Family Room is housed in an independent 310-square-meter building within the hospital grounds and provides a welcoming space for the families of children receiving treatment at the hospital.
Restoring
with purpose and care
The renovation and refurbishment carried out by GDM Assets involved transforming a 1920s property of three adjacent buildings. These were reconfigured into three family suites, a living room, laundry and storage areas, private bathrooms, a kitchen, and a counseling room. To ensure the structural integrity of the building, the construction included creating new structural elements in the two stone buildings and reinforcing the perimeter walls, which were made of solid ceramic bricks. All buildings were strengthened with reinforced concrete, and the original wooden roof was replaced with Roman-style tiles.
Offering
COMFORT, FUNCTIONALITY AND WARMTH
New partitions were created to optimize the interior space for its intended functions, and the interior walls were reinforced to enhance the building’s stability. Energy-efficient aluminium frames with thermal breaks and energy-efficient glass were installed, along with new insulation to reduce the Family Room’s energy requirements. Additionally, plumbing and electrical upgrades, along with new flooring throughout, improved the overall quality of accommodation offered by RMHC Hellas.
At the same time, GDM Assets, wishing to support RMHC’s mission, proudly served as a Premium Sponsor of the project, contributing a significant portion of the construction costs through its donation.
